Google Algorithm Weather Forecast – MOZCAST

Keeping closer tabs on Google with MOZCAST

SEOmoz have recently launched their new tool called the “MozcastMozcast” which will help webmasters monitor Google fluctuations. Imagine you come into the office one fine day and suddenly realise your rankings have dropped off the face of the planet; this tool may help you out a little to know why. There are many factors that can affect your positions on Google however this tool lets you know when the largest search engine in the world has been updating by contrasting fluctuations in rankings across the web. Now it doesn’t tell you what the update was because Google keeps that very close to their chest, but it does convey when there has been a significant amount of changes made. This can act as an indicator to let webmasters know if it was an update or could be something at their end that has caused the change in ranking. There are a lot of SEO tools out there which help give indications about the health of your website and ranking positions but we believe this will be a tool that will help most online marketing enthusiasts.

 Fluctuation charts are nothing new

This new tool isn’t something new at all. SERPmetrics do the fluctuation chart as well; this site monitors the fluctuations across Google, Yahoo, and Bing. However, if you want to use the best of SERPmetrics so that you get daily updates it is going to cost you for that privilege. At present SEOmoz are working on making a Mozcast widget so you can put it on your own websites and use it as link bait. One noticeable trend on the Mozcast graph is that most changes made by Google don’t take place over the weekend. If you exclude the month of June almost all changes take place over the week days. Perhaps Google employees don’t like working during the weekends.

Google can run but they can’t hide

At present SEOmoz are chatting to their customers about how to develop this new SEO Tool. If anything it gives people a good indication of when there has been some movement from Google. On the other hand, it doesn’t let you know what the updates are. If you want to find out what the updates were you need to wait sometime before it becomes apparent what the update entailed. I believe SEOmoz are moving closer to tracking Google more closely. The Mozcast tool is one step closer to informing customers about what Google is doing every day, therefore the next step should be to let their followers know about what the changes were and let them know as fast as possible.

 Conclusion

SEOmoz have become more and more efficient at keeping tabs on Google. However, Google will always have the upper hand. I suppose it is a bit of a cat and mouse game but SEOmoz are certainly getting better at coming back to us quicker and with more information when updates happen. The SEO industry changes daily and to keep up with it all you have to constantly keep your finger on the pulse, this new tool from SEOmoz is the start of something bigger so keep watch to see where they go with this new tool.
